Pablo Picasso has rightly said that, "Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once they grow up." Every child is an artist with his or her own brush and vision. They are all stars that desire to twinkle. It was to make these stars realise about their brightness that Gavaksh Window to Happiness and Parantap Shekhar Foundation came together and joined hands. A 2 day event was organized on 22nd and 23rd October, 2019 with a moto of enhancing the creativity of the children, to help them understand the importance of a cleaner and greener environment and to celebrate a healthy Diwali without bursting any crackers.
A T-shirt designing competition was organized on the second day of the Diwali week on 22nd October, 2019 for these young artists where they were asked to create a personalized T-shirt using their imagination that could be treasured by them forever! The children were given plain white T-shirts and were taught about the art of Block printing by the volunteers using Fabric paints and designer wooden blocks. Old newspapers were reused. Along with this there were music performances by some of the emerging artists. The activity helped the children understand about the importance of empowering hands craftsmanship and about reusing, recycling and recreating resources.
The Handkerchief Design Campaign was organized on 23rd October, 2019 wherein the children were supposed to design lovely handkerchiefs using hand thread embroidery techniques of Kantha, Manipuri and Phulkari filling work and paints. They were supposed to make these handkerchiefs using their imagination with lots of love because they were to be used as self made Diwali gifts, handcrafted by children specially for their parents for their indescribable and priceless contribution of raising their children despite all hardships. The objective of the activity was to teach the children something new and to bring a closer bond between them and their parents to sustain a happy life.
A Balloon Bursting Campaign was also organized as a surprise to prevent air pollution. The strategy of the campaign was to replace the pollution producing crackers with colourful balloons, to discover a better way of celebrating the festival of lights with the same vibe and fun while ensuring a cleaner, greener and happier Mother Earth at the same time.
It was a lovely event where the children and the volunteers learned new skills and enhanced their creativity with happiness and fun!
